Strategic Presentation & DCIM Capstone
In both of these classes that I took to complete my minor in Digital Communication, Information & Media, I examined theories and techniques for analyzing, producing, and disseminating messages. I learned how to use web-based and multimedia presentation tools to connect with a variety of audiences and convey a desired message. In Strategic Presentation I crafted a message to support social change with a focus on sustainability by developing and shaping the message into compelling digital media presentations in a range of formats.
In Capstone, as a synthesis to what I learned throughout the minor, I researched the long term effects of social media use in women and created my final project in the form of a podcast. I also honed and further designed this website as a portfolio to utilize throughout my career.
Multimedia Blog Posts
These Blog post assignments occurred throughout the semester as I enriched my website for my audience. I posted about various topics learning how to enhance blog posts with relevant links, photos, and videos. You can read some of my posts for this course under my Blog tab.
Bibliography
In order to create a list compiling all of the sources I referenced and used in the research for my final project, I created a bibliography. With two detailed paragraphs summarizing each source, I referenced this bibliography often when recording my final project.
Non-Profit PSA
In Strategic Presentation, to grow comfortable with audio editing on Audacity and writing commercial scripts, I created a 30 second PSA discussing a non-profit organizations that was in line with my interests. With a focus on sustainability, I chose to highlight The World Wildlife Fund.
LinkedIn Posts
To build up my LinkedIn profile and page I researched articles to share on my profile with a post discussing what I learned. Both of these posts related to the research I conducted for my final podcast.
Capstone Project - Work In Progress Podcast
I created this digital project that represents my interests, initiative, creativity, and ingenuity in the realm of digital communication, information, and media. I scripted, recorded and edited a my second podcast episode for the Work In Progress Podcast where I examined how growing up on social media has affected the mental health of Generation Z women.
Sustainability Podcast
In my first ever podcast I compiled information about sustainability and created an episode for my website Birch Please where I explained to my audience what they could do to be more sustainable. Editing this project in Audacity, I featured a background music track as well as the PSA of a peer of mine.
YouTube Tutorial
Along with my PSA and Podcast, to enrich my Birch Please website I created a tutorial on YouTube where I learned how to edit video for the first time. In this tutorial I showed my audience the proper steps for recycling in order to stay in line with the theme of sustainability for my website.
